Vancouver Rape Relief Society

The BC Court of Appeal has pronounced that the Vancouver Rape Relief Society did discriminate against Kimberly Nixon but was exempted from the application of the BC Human Rights Code on the basis of its non-profit status under section 41 of the Code. The case, Vancouver Rape Relief Society v. Nixon, 2005 BCCA 601, involved discrimination against a post-operative male-to- female transsexual woman and has caused somewhat of a stir on the West Coast.
